D’Gata Brass Week
Brass course and festival in Almería.
Every summer, D’Gata Brass Week brings young musicians and teachers together in Almería for a programme of tuition and concerts open to the public. Over several days, individual lessons, chamber music and ensemble rehearsals run alongside a concert programme that brings brass music to venues across the city.

History
Made in Almería.
I founded D’Gata Brass Week with fellow Almería musicians David Pérez, Francisco José Carmona and Mario Montes. We wanted to give young musicians a place to continue learning, discover different approaches to music and play together, while contributing to the cultural life of our home region.
Our approach to teaching is personal: we listen to each student, support their work and encourage them to learn from one another. The conversations, questions and experiences we share matter just as much to us as what happens in the classroom.
That spirit is captured in our motto: “More than a course, a family”.
From classroom to stage
The programme combines individual work with group music-making. Each activity helps students develop their playing and their ability to make music with others.
- Individual lessons.One-to-one tuition focusing on technique, interpretation and each student’s needs.
- Chamber music.Small-group rehearsals to learn to listen, play together and make musical decisions as a group.
- Brass ensemble.Preparing a programme together for the students to perform in concert.
- Talks.Sessions to ask questions and share experiences of musical training and life as a professional musician.
- Orchestral repertoire.Studying the repertoire and the role of brass instruments within the orchestra.
Concerts for the city
The festival invites audiences to discover the richness of brass music through concerts at venues across Almería.
For students, these performances round out the course experience: they offer a chance to hear their teachers on stage and share the work they have done in rehearsals with an audience. For the city, they are an opportunity to enjoy the music and get to know the people who make it possible.
